OUR story
Why YWAM?
My Experience
Despite growing up in the church with pastors for parents, it was not until I joined YWAM where I developed a personal relationship with Jesus. By no means do I think I am the majority, and I don’t believe this is the story for all, but there are a few who need an experience outside the church walls to encounter Jesus in a personal way. Through the structure of a DTS (Discipleship Training School) I was able to practice disciplines with a group of international believers which left me forever changed. What was stirred up in this school, was a desire to serve God. Out of YWAM I found a passion to serve God’s kingdom wherever I was. When I returned from YWAM I served the church through sport ministry, and when I would go back to YWAM, I would serve through staffing schools and shepherding others in the same transformation I experienced. I believe YWAM is a unique and gifted tool that can help transform so many lives. People who are similar to me, who grew up in the church but never encountered the fullness of life with Christ. Our desire is to help the develop the lifestyle of walking with Jesus and equip them to serve God, wherever He might take them. – James
Why north County
While living in Chile and ministering among the youth, it became apparent that the struggles they faced were not all that different than the friends I left back home. The problem of sin, and the darkness of life without Christ was just as prevalent on one side of the equator as the other. Through the years it became apparent that the United States is in need of missionaries just as much as other parts of the world.Â
In 2010 while attending a Leadership Training School with YWAM in Mexico, God gave me a vision through teachings on the great commission. The teacher showed a map of Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. There was dots on each city going outward, in that moment, I felt like I saw a map of the coast of California and Mexico, where dots represented different YWAM bases, and I felt like there was a gap in San Diego, specifically North County. In that moment, I was flooded with ideas and opportunities of what a YWAM base could accomplish here. Its been over 10 years since that vision, and we have finally mustered up the faith to make it a reality.
OUR GOAL
What funded looks like..
the 1% Team
We are taking our own approach to the prinicipal of tithing! A tithe is simply 10 people giving 10% so that 1 person can dedicate their time towards ministry. However, we dont want to compete with the church or other ministries, so we are asking 100 people to go above and beyond their normal giving and give 1% towards our mission. We are trusting in God for the average to meet our living and ministry needs. Would you consider joining our 1% team?
What we will be doing
Our Mission
Our role as YWAM Base directors includes leading the staff. Â We have a heart for healthy leadership. Â We want to make sure families that serve together are also being served. Â Rachelle’s experience as a therapist and James’ experience as a Pastor is going to come in handy with this specific task. As locals to North County we are already a part of an incredible local network of ministry partners. Â We are going to utilize these amazing connections by helping partner with what God is already doing here! Through walking out this Journey with faith we are expecting God to answer our prayers and send workers into the harvest that is ready.Â
